Über den Film: Dieser Thriller stellt viele spannende Fragen zum (Klima-)Aktivismus, die du dir vielleicht auch schon mal gestellt hast: Was muss passieren, damit sich die Politik endlich für echte Klimagerechtigkeit einsetzt? In welchem Verhältnis steht eigentlich der einmalige (wenn auch heftige) Rechtsverstoß zum fortlaufenden Rechtsverstoß der gegenwärtigen Politik? Welche Protestformen sind legitim? Ab wann muss von Gewalt gesprochen werden? Und wer gibt den Aktivistinnen das Recht dazu, sollte eine demokratische Mehrheit für ihre Taktiken fehlen? Der schwedische Autor des Buches, auf dem der Thriller basiert, wundert sich in seinem Werk darüber, warum die Klimabewegung immer noch so harmlos ist und angesichts der eskalierenden Klimakrise nicht längst viel radikalere Mittel ergreift. Und genau das machen die Klimaaktivistinnen im Film: Sie beschließen, eine Ölpipeline im Westen von Texas in die Luft zu sprengen. Movie Night: „How to blow up a pipeline“ by Daniel Goldhaber and Ariela Barer

About the film: This thriller asks many exiting questions about (climate) activism that you may have asked yourself as well: What needs to happen for policymakers to finally commit to real climate justice? How does the one-time (albeit violent) violation of the law (for example, blowing up a pipeline) compare to the ongoing violation of the law by current policy? Which forms of protest are legitimate? At what point does one have to speak of violence? And who gives activists the right to do so, should a democratic majority for their tactics be lacking? In his work, the Swedish author of the book on which the thriller is based wonders why the climate movement is still so harmless and has not long since taken much more radical measures in the face of the escalating climate crisis. And that is exactly what the climate activists in the film do: they decide to blow up an oil pipeline in West Texas.
